Blackrock is one of the most remote and desolate lighthouse stations on the Irish coast. The station is perched 230 feet above sea level on a pinnacle of almost barren rock, 11 miles out into the Atlantic from Blacksod.
Completed in 1864 and was a watched station until 1974, when it was automated. Damaged by a German bomber in 1940, which was attacking a nearby Allied vessel (SS Macville).
