449-foot, 38-story postmodern residential building completed in 2001. Designed by Polshek Partnership with Handel Architects, it is situated near the far south end of Battery Park City. The hotel, formerly The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park, occupies the first 12 floors of the tower and the curved wing facing Hudson river and featuring a landscaped deck. The residential portion, Residences at Ritz-Carlton, includes 113 luxury condos in the tower.
There is a 2-story base of grey stone, glass and silver metal. A large, angled metal canopy extends out over the stairs at the entrance at the southeast corner of the building. Above, the tower is clad in reddish-brown iron-spot brick on the wing and eastern facade. The curved western facade of the 12-story wing has ribbons of continuous windows across nearly its whole face, with horizontal stripes in the spandrels between floors. A metal cornice caps the top of the 12th floor. The slanted riverside half of the tower has an sloping, prism-like top and chamfered corners. It is clad in grey-tinted glass and an aluminum curtain wall.
The hotel has 298 rooms, including 44 suites. Hotel rooms facing the waterfront feature telescopes. There are three dining facilities including the award-winning 14th floor Rise bar and terrace, 2 West Steakhouse, and Lobby Lounge. Also included are 12,000 square feet of meeting space with two ballrooms. New York's Skyscraper Museum occupies a small space on the first floor of the building.
