Named after Joseph T. Keating, S.J., the University treasurer from 1910 to 1948, Keating Hall was built under University President Father Hogan. Keating Hall, its beautiful terrace, and the parade grounds became the perfect location for Commencement, and in 1936, for the first time it did. Keating Hall remains the backdrop for the annual University Commencement and for the Fordham College Rose Hill Diploma Ceremony.

The granite steps of Keating are also known as the Terrace of Presidents. They are engraved with the names of heads of states from around the world who have received honorary doctorates from Fordham, including former United States presidents Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman.

In 1940, during his campaign for a third term, FDR stopped at Fordham to review the ROTC, and spoke to a crowd in front of Keating Hall. In 1946, President Truman received his honorary Doctor of Laws from Fordham on Keating Terrace to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the charter that marked the State of New York’s incorporation of St. John’s College in 1846.

Keating Hall serves a range of purposes. It is home to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and it houses plenty of classrooms and two larger auditoriums which serve as the meeting place for many Fordham College Rose Hill courses. The basement is the home of Fordham’s renowned, award-winning radio station, WFUV (90.7 FM), a student lounge, art studio rooms, and more. Keating Hall also houses the offices of the Fordham College Rose Hill Deans and a host of other administrative and faculty offices.

One of its classrooms was used as a set in the 1994 film "Quiz Show." It was also used as a filming location for White Collar S02 E03 "Copycat" Caffrey" where Neal and Peter investigate an art forger. The exterior and likely interior were used as classroom space.
