 administrative building  Add category

Housing Options Advice Centre. An administrative building that is part of Leicester City Council.

Phoenix House, designed by William Flint, was built in 1842 as the offices for the Leicestershire and Midland Counties Fire & Life Insurance Company. It is a typical example of the Greek Revival architecture of the earlier half of the 19th century in Leicester, complete with fluted Ionic columns that flank the central entrance. The order is adapted from that of the ancient Grecian temple of Minerva Polias at Priene. The archway in the eastern portion indicates the opening in the wall made for the fire engine
