Gedling is a village & suburb of Nottingham city, it is also a local government district of the county of Nottinghamshire. The name of the area is of Saxon origin, it came from a name of a chief called "Gedl" & "Ing" meaning people in Saxon. Hence Gedl-Ing meaning "Gedl's People".
