On the 27th January 1945, the Red Army started her offensive towards Berlin. Fought from April 16th - 19th, 1945, it took five attack waves to gain control of the heights. The loss of men was so tremendous that the attacking soldiers of the last two attack waves were sent into the battle without any guns, and had to collect the weapons of their dead comrades .
