"The Ave", officially University Way Northeast, is located in the University District (U. District) in northeast Seattle, Washington. The Ave is and commercial heart of the U. District and the off-campus extension of the University of Washington (UW). Once mostly a variety of commercial establishments (even a department store), the Ave has gradually turned into what now resembles an eight-block-long global food court. The story of the Ave reflects the dynamics of many urban neighborhoods and the social and economic problems of countless American cities, though it is also a crossroads of diverse subcultures. It is patronized by many of the nearly 96,900 students, faculty, and staff of the UW; by the largely white and middle class residents of the U. District; and by a population of homeless or transient individuals, most of whom are youth.

  • This area basically extends from Schultz Hall on 41st up to the Safeway on 50th. The area is known for its food and retail attractions, and is one of the better and cheaper places to hang out near campus.
  • The ave has many tpes of food stops ranging from asian, coffe/wifi caffe, bubble tea, fast food (jack in the box), and even vegan. there is also at leas two smoke shops along the ave and a conviniant store (J's market) so if you have a few minutes between classes its all here. The homless youth are loud but largely wond bother you exept for your change and a cigarete. If you have it its nice to help out but one cant always help everyone
