Jhanjharpur is a city and a notified area in the Madhubani district in the Indian state of Bihar.Jhanjharpur is located at 26°16′N 86°17′E / 26.27°N 86.28°E / 26.27; 86.28[1]. It has an average elevation of 59 metres (193 feet).
Jhanjharpur is a small town located on the bank of the Kamla-Balan River. Presently Jhanjharpur is a sub-division in Madhubani district of Bihar. It is a Loksabha (House of the People) constituency as well. There has been a long standing demand of thousands of people supported by almost all the political parties to make Jhanjharpur a district. But so far this demand for the people of jhanjharpur has not been fulfilled. The Kamla Balan river is prone to frequently overflowing in July. This river is actually the confluence of two separate rivers, Kamla and Balan. A bridge passing over the river was constructed by the British before India's independence on 15 August 1947.Agriculture
Important crops grown in the area include paddy, wheat, Potato, Paan, peas, gam, Mustard, onion, and sugar cane. Makkhana is a popular food in the area, and some small industry related in makkhana has grown up in Jhanjharpur. Despite Jhanjharpur has not seen any economic development after railway line in 1975, it has elf sustained economy. People in the area grow all vegetables and their daily needs in the region.

There are two important business hubs in the town, 4 km apart: Jhanjharpur (R.S.) Market, also known as New Market and Jhanjharpur Purani Bazar. Apart from these, all villages have local weekly haat(market) from where people buy stuffs to meet their household needs. Weekly haats(markets) are organised in in Nanaur, thardhi, gandhrain, alpura, Laupha, Maiby, Debnagar (Belaunch) and other villages.Culture
Indra Puja & Durga Puja are the main festivals of Jhanjharpur. Indra Puja is the main festival of Jhanjharpur in main court stadium Ground. The Lord Indra is worshipped for 10 days in a diverse cultural program. Apart from Indra Puja.
Durga Puja is the main festival of Jhanjharpur (R.S) in Navtol Village. Durga Puja is celebrated in a big way in Navtol-Jhanjharpur(R.S), Tharhi, Harari, Nanaur, Belauncha, Debnagar (Belauncha), Jorla (Belauncha).

Mithla is the land of high moral valu of life. so many festival like durga puja & saraswati puja, chath puja very famous at Maharani Pokher kanhauli,etc. are celebrated here with great enthusiasm. PACHAHI is a village well known for Hindu's Religious temple of MAA CHAMUNDA.
