Babubarhi is a Big town located on the bank of the Kamla-Balan River. Presently Babubarhi is a sub-division in Madhubani district of Bihar. It is a 34-Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) constituency of the State of Bihar in India. (House of the People) constituency as well.The Kamla Balan river is prone to frequently overflowing in July. This river is actually the confluence of two separate rivers, Kamla and Balan. A Pipraghat bridge passing over the river was constructed by the British before India's independence on 15 August 1947.Agriculture Important crops grown in the area include paddy, wheat, Potato, Paan, peas, gam, Mustard, onion, and sugar cane. Makkhana is a popular food in the area, and some small industry related in makkhana has grown up in Babubarhi. Despite Babubarhi has not seen any economic development it has Self sustained economy. People in the area grow all vegetables and their daily needs in the region. Markets There are two important business hubs in the town, 16km East apart: Khutuana (Railway Station), and 12.3 km West apart: Rajnagar (Railway Station) also have known as New Market and Babubarhi Purvi Bazar. Apart from these, all villages have local weekly haat(Market) from where people buy stuffs to meet their household needs. Weekly haats(Markets) are organised Only 2 Days Monday and Friday. it's Organised in Surha, Mohanpur, Barki tola Murhaddi, Dudahi, Chhotki tola Murhadi, Shankarpur and other villages.Culture Durga Puja and kalli puja are the main festivals of Babubarhi. Durga Puja is the main festival of Babubarhi in main Market J.N High School Ground. The Kalli puja is worshipped for 3-4 days in Babubarhi Purani Bazar a diverse cultural program. Apart from kalli Puja. Durga Puja is the main festival of in Babubarhi. Durga Puja is celebrated in a big way in Babubarhi,Surha, Mohanpur, Barki tola Murhaddi, Dudahi, Chhotki tola Murhadi, Shankarpur and other villages are celebrating.Maithili Paintings A sample of Madhubani Painting. Mithila Painting, also known as Madhubani painting, is a popular art which is famous among the people in Babubarhi and Mithila. mithla is the mother land of goddess shita. Mithla is the land of high moral valu of life. so many festival like durga puja & saraswati puja, chath puja etc. are celebrated here with great enthusiasm.

It has mix population of Muslims, Suri, Brahmins, Bhumihars, and many OBC castes. It has police station, a high school, a middle school, a block office, land registry office. The Sangam of river Kamala-Balan is just 2.5 KM west from here in Piparaghat where a bridges is built to connect this part of Madhubani to district head quarter. The bridge was inauguarated by Late L N Mishra who is seen in high regard in the area by the people. This constituency has produced great leaders like Deonarayan Yadav who was the Speaker and Revenue Minsiter in Bihar(1990-2000). Its name Babubarhi is coined due to its being the circle(revenue office) of Maharaja of Darbhanga during the period of Raj. Perhaps it was the village of Badhais...(Thathera) a caste who are indulged in wood work. But due to Maharaja's leaneage, the name 'babu' was added in this. In this block there is famous ancient historical site Balirajgarh lies 5 KM eastward. A road connecting it to Laukaha(Nepal boarder) passes through Babubarhi and regular bus service is available from here upto Patna.

  • myself Heera Nand Thakur also called Chandan. I came to Babubarhi from Rajnagar. My father Mr. Kedar Nath Thakur owns a jewellery shop here. Which is the oldest and most trusted shop of Babubarhi. The name of my shop is Thakur Jewellers. I completed my matriculation here from J N High School. Behaviour of all the teachers of this +2 high school has been very good. At present I am pursuing my graduation in English from Benaras Hindu University.
