One of the two members of the Hibiki Class, this vessel is one of the JMSDF's only dedicated Ocean Surveillance Ships, designed to monitor and track undersea warships and communications. Both members of the Hibiki Class are homeported at Kure, where they operate as part of the Oceanographic Command.
Constructed on a SWATH Catamaran Hull, ships of the Hibiki Class share much of their outward design with the US Navy's Victorious Class of Ocean Surveillance Ships.
This ship is one of the following:
JDS Hibiki (AOS-5201)
JDS Harima (AOS-5202)
