Officially Taxiway Victor. Known locally to pilots at ATL as the Loop. Recently completed section of taxiway allows aircraft arriving on 8L/26R to proceed directly to the terminal area as opposed to holding short of 8R/26L.
Usual procedure at ATL is to use 8R/26L for departures and 8L/26R for arrivals. It was not unusual to see a dozen or more aircraft waiting to cross 8R/26L while a long line of departures thundered off on the parallel runway. Of course this played hell with fuel burn and passenger tempers so the powers that be came up with the idea of constructing this loop to bypass the runway crossings.
