HOW TO REACH THE TEMPLE:
Koottalumoodu Arulmigu Bhadreswari Temple, is located 8 kms from the Marthandam city, which is exactly in between the Nagercoil City(Tamilnadu State) and Thiruvananthapuram City(Kerala State).
By Road:
There are excellent roads connecting to Marthandam which is second main city in the Kanyakumari District . And also middle of Nagercoil - Thiruvananthapuram Road (NH47). Koottalumoodu Temple is 8 KM away from Marthandam city.
By Train:
Nagercoil is an important railway junction of the Southern Railway and is directly connected to Chennai Egmore via Tirunelveli-Madurai-Tiruchirappalli line and in other side Bangalore via Thiruvananthapuram-Quilon line. In between Nagercoil Junction and Thiruvananthapuram Junction there is one important place KUZHITHURAI. The Ananthapuri Express Train, which is a super-fast daily train between Chennai Egmore and Thiruvananthapuram junction and takes 14 hours for the 750 kms.
By Flight:
There are daily flights to Thiruvananthapuram from various places. Our Temple is 45 Kms away from Thiruvananthapuram Airport.
MIRACLE OF THE DEVI (GODDESS):
Some 100 years age, there was an unusual outbreak of cholera epidemic in South Travancore which occurred in a most virulent form in this part of the region. Then this region was under the Travancore State. It took a heavy toll of life and it is said that 9 to 10 people in a family, perished due to this terrible epidemic. Every where the death tone was heard. In most of the houses there was no survivor to remove the dead body. It was left to the vultures and owls.
In this precarious condition 8 children died in a family. Only the mother and a child were left out by the scourge. Finally, the child was also affected by the epidemic. At this critical juncture the mother took the child before Kootalumoodu Devi and prayed. The mother having kept the child before the deity fell asleep. She had a dream that the Devi appeared and ordered her to offer her a bunch of plantain and then disappeared. Next morning when the mother woke up, she saw the child lying down nearby her and thought that the child was dead. But actually the child was sleeping comfortably. At once, the mother remembered the vision of Devi in her dream. She saw the child completely safe without any symptoms of cholera. The mother disclosed the miracle to the devotees and thereby the people began to bring bunches of plantain as offerings. All the people got relief and the epidemic disappeared from Koottalumoodu. From that instance people began to offer bunches of plantain.
