tunnel, cave / caves, invisible, English Heritage

The fogou at Halliggye is a roofed and walled stone complex of passages. It is one of the largest, best-preserved and mysterious underground tunnels associated with Cornish Iron Age settlements. The purpose of such 'fogous', a Cornish-language word meaning 'cave', is unknown. There is a big main passage with a two section chamber at the end, this was most likely another passage, but the end is blocked off now with modern brickwork.
