  • Paravur kalakkodu is a nice place
  • Situated 13 km south of Kollam, Paravur is famous for fishing and coir making. KC Kesava Pillai, a prominent literary figure, was born here. Lapped by backwaters, Paravur is an ideal weekend getaway. Nearest airport is at Thiruvananthapuram. Paravur Railway Station is on the Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam rail line. • Paravoor or Paravur in South Kerala is an important link between Kollam and Trivandrum. The famous Vijaya Oil Mills and related businesses founded by the prominent family members of Kurumandal Kottapuram, Late Aiypullazhikom Madhavan Pillai, Vijayendran Pillai, Surendran Pillai contributed to the local development and infrastructure in the 1900s. Railway lines, phone connections, gas connections, petrol pump, service stations, kerosene dealerships, Athena tutorial colleges were all directly part of this family vision towards job creation and education venture for the citizens. As local patrons, they have helped local communities, Paravoor temple committees, S.N College Kollam, Sabarimala, Brittania Biscuits, coir export to Germany during world war 2 etc. There was migration of natives to Singapore, Malaysia and Ceylon before the Gulf jobs started happening. Sometimes, we forget the past and sometimes we do not know the role of the past and history - because these are forgotten stories and also there was no internet or wikimapia back then to record it. Old folks remaining would remember these but children are busy to ask. Paravoor sea and port was important during ancient sea trade with Romans, China, Greek, Portugal, British, Burma, Arab and Africans. The fishermen community are genetically linked to them having migrated and settled on the shores. Some of these people look different even now. The whole world is one and Kerala people are tolerant to other cultures. Legends say it was part of Aiy rajyam or Kumari-Kandan or Golconda - the lost city of Atlantis that extended down to Indian ocean. Who knows. Thanks to Wiki, google and internet - at least our next generation will preserve the old stories (pazhaya kalam charithrangal)
