The Mayureshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at the tri-junction of three Tehsils of Pune District, namely, Baramati, Daund and Purandar near a fast developing village of Supe. The Mayureshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is unique in number of ways; Firstly it is one of the rare wildlife sanctuaries to conserve Chinkaras, the endangered Indian Gazelle. Secondly, unlike other wildlife sanctuaries, it is surrounded by well developed, well organized villages engaged in advanced agricultural practices thus depending negligible on the forest and forest produce for their immediate material requirements.


Mayureshwar Wildlife Sanctuary came into existanse on 19th Aug. 1997 (as per Government Notification No.WLP/1094/CR-510 F-1 dated 19th Aug. 1997) and encompasses total area of 514.46 hectares of reserved forests from Supe and Kutwalwadi villages of Baramati Tehsil in Pune District. The reserve forests, that are under jurisdiction of the forest department, were afforested under different forestation schemes undertaken by the Pune wildlife Division.

Mayureshwar Wildlife Sanctuary, Supe represents the bio-diversity of drought prone areas of Baramati Tahsil of Pune District. This WLS have an undulating area and the periphery of the sanctuary is about 22 km. This is a small sanctuary and relatively new and yet in the process of being developed. Still it attracts a large number of tourists from nearby areas i.e., Baramati and Pune.
