  • Also known as "Peeranki Maidanam"-ground where cannons used to be fired ,by the British Army stationed in the area
  • Five cannons exhibited at the adjacent park accounts for the name `Peeranki Maidanam,' by which name this ground is known in vernacular. In 1915 Ayyankali took part in the conciliatory meeting to settle the Pulayar-Nair Revolt at Perinad(Kallumala agitation). The statue of Ayankali seen at the maidan commemmorates this event. On October 11, 1927, Mahatma Gandhi was accorded a reception here. In 1932, during the Nivarthana (Abstention Movement) agitations the maidan was the scene of police firing.
  • Kallumala agitation
  • I have fond memories of this maidanam. Recently I was passing by. There is hardly any maidanam now. I don't know if the canons are still there
