It is situated opposite Cairo university at Giza. It was founded in 1910 as a private garden of Giza; it was known at that time as the Lemon garden. In 1917 it was put under the Ministry of Agriculture management. The acreage as that date was near 57 acre but latterly major parts were taken and added to the Zoo and another part was separated as a main street called Gamaa street; the area know is 28 acre. The garden contains bunches of rare plants of trees, shrubs, conifers and palms. There is also a herbarium and further more a rock garden planted with succulents.
