The Lower Alexander Garden (Moscow)

Russia / Moscow / Moscow
 park, garden

The lower gardens extend from the embankment to the Borovitsky Tower. Like the Middle Garden but different from the Upper Garden, this area is not gated nor does it have anything of note other than trees, flower beds, and paths.

In 1819, during the extensive reconstruction of Moscow after the War of 1812, the Neglinnaya River was channeled underground and the earthen bastions adjacent to the Kremlin walls were removed. These three gardens, named for Tsar Aleksandr I (1777-1825), who presided over the reconstruction, were designed by Osip Bove (1784-1834) and finished in 1822.
