"During the year 1856, a small group of black men and women stood beneath a stand of pines just down the road from Oak Grove Baptist Church, realizing that they would need to plan for the future when they would no longer be attending services with their masters, sitting in the designated balcony area of Oak Grove. Their need for a place to worship as Christians coming out of slavery led to the constitution of their own church in 1870. In 1884, the first building, a log cabin, was built. Replaced two years later by a white clapboard structure and in 1906 by a spacious brick building, Little Piney Grove Baptist Church has served the descendants of that visionary former slave group as a beacon in the Creeds community."
