USA / Virginia / Rushmere /
ship, cargo, United States Navy, military reserve force

Laid down in 1969 as the commercial ro-ro containership SS Mormacstar, the Cape Nome served under several different names and shipping lines before her 1987 aquisition by the Maritime Administration.

Following a brief refit for Navy service, the Cape Nome was placed into the control of the Military Sealift Command as part of the Ready Reserve Fleet. Downgraded from the RRF and placed into Category D Reserve, she is presently retained as a Logistics Support Asset (spare parts hulk) for her sisterships SS Wright (AVB-3) & SS Curtiss (AVB-4).
