This rest area is named for Woodrow Wilson, former Governor of New Jersey and twenty-eighth President of the United States. Though born in Virginia, he was a student at Princeton University and also President of the University. As Governor of New Jersey he fought the political system and as President he pushed progressive reforms, guided the country through World War I and afterwards championed the international predecessor of the United Nations, the League of Nations. Suffered a stroke, but through the efforts of his wife, remained in office.
