place with historical importance, replica, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places, interesting place, U.S. National Historic Landmark
Zebulon Pike and his by now starveling ragamuffin expedition built a shelter near the confluence of the Rio Grande and Conejos Creek in January 1806, in Spanish territory, meaning to ride out the winter. They were found and arrested as spies by Spanish soldiers on Feb 26, and taken to Santa Fe. Today, a replica of the stockade that Pike's men built stands on the site. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties, and is designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark.
