Referred to by some local Fredericksburg residents as the "Big Ugly II", this modern house stirred controversy in 2003/2004 for its architecture in the mostly historic area that it resides. The original "Big Ugly" can be found on Caroline Street as Executive Plaza.

The cost of the 1.3-acre building lot was about $300,000. It has 235 feet of frontage on Sophia Street.

The house measures 198 feet wide by about 25 feet deep. Viewing it from Sophia Street gives little indication of the complexity of the support structure beneath it. Two 18-foot-high, steel-reinforced concrete foundations support the living area at a height of 18 inches above the 100-year flood level. Bedrooms at either end of the home are connected by the living area, and glass walls at the rear of the house maximize views of the Rappahannock River.
