Dedicated June 12, 2008, Taconite Ridge Energy Center is a 25 megawatt (nameplate capacity) wind farm consisting of 10 - 2.5 megawatt Clipper Liberty C96 wind turbines. Each wind turbine is 265 feet tall with blades that are 140 feet in length. The wind farm is located about 5 miles northwest of Virginia, Minnesota, on/near US Steel's Mountain Iron mine.

This $50 Million investment by Minnesota Power is a marked shift towards renewable power and away from non-renewable coal fired generation. One of numerous investments by Minnesota Power towards cleaner generation of electrical power.
