Seattle Waldorf School - Kinderhaus
The Seattle Waldorf School offers programs for early childhood education – parent-toddler, preschool and kindergarten, as well as an elementary and middle school encompassing first through eighth grades. By "engaging the head, the heart, and the hands" Waldorf education considers art, music, and handcrafts to be as important as reading, writing, and arithmetic. Academic studies are therefore enlivened and balanced with artistic and social activities, and each lesson engages the student’s need for doing, feeling, and thinking.
In the Waldorf Kindergarten the child’s imagination is nourished as a great treasure. Songs, poems, puppet plays and circle games tune the child’s ear to the beauty of language. Bread-baking, drawing, and painting awaken the senses. Experiences with natural materials — like wood, silk, and beeswax — appeal to the sense of touch and engender reverence for nature. Outside play, nature walks, and gardening allow the children to experience the joy of movement. The home-like environment eases the child’s transition from home life into school.
