The town of Khambhat may be the Camanes of Ptolemy, and was formerly a very flourishing city, the seat of an extensive trade, and celebrated for its manufactures of silk, chintz and gold stuffs; it was mentioned in 1293 by Marco Polo, who noted it as a busy port.
The town was celebrated for its manufacture of agate and carnelian ornaments, of reputation. principally in China.
Now days Diamond cutting and polising and handloom silk sarees is a big business here

Hardly any city in India has so many historical stories as Khambhat has.Being an Indian, one should definately visit Khambhat.

    The aarti of mataji which every hindu performs was created n written by shivanand swami at khambhat. Earlier the name was trambavati so to give priviledge shivanand swami has mentioned it in aarti.it was only the official port for import/export n overseas travelling.history states that the first cricket match was also played over here by british peoples during first time arrival in india.The first oil well(kaala sona) of india was also struck at khambhat(po.lunej).The best of best architechtural design can be seen in jumma masjid.every year lot of students of archi are visiting to see the eternal design.it's said that in one night the masjid was constructed.one of the idol(more then 5ft) of jain religion, made up of single green emerald( paanu) is also kept over here having price in millions. There is lot of other things in khambhat which can be seen during visit rather then to describe.so every khambhati where ever he/she may be feels proud for khambhat.
