Tain was an Erstwhile Estate(Thikana) of 12 villages. It was founded by Thakur Salem Singh(Grandson of the legendary Maharao Sardul Singh) who ruled Jhunjhunu from 1730-42.Tain fort was constructed between 1761 & 1769 and was partially destroyed when Shekhawati cavalry brigade under the command of a British officer Major Henry Forster, attacked it in the year 1837 as the local Thakurs(chieftains) were opposed to their cousins, the Jaipur state and their British overlords.
