Historically, an intersection of wagon trails where travelers might actually exclaim, "hallelujah", because they now knew themselves to be in California. As travel technology advanced, it remained a watering hole and an intersection of major routes.

Today, the US 395 and SR 70 highway interchange is here, along with a gas station and convenience store.
