university, greenhouse, horticulture

Located east of the College Building and designed by Brown and Vallance, the original Horticulture Greenhouses were constructed in 1916. Further additions were completed in 1918 and in the mid 1920s. The eight Header Houses are one-story greystone clad structures that were built at right angles to the greenhouse extensions. They were the home of the Department of Horticulture's "laboratory," Bacteriology, and from 1926 until 1930 they were also the first home of the School of Medical Sciences. The greenhouses were removed in the late 1990s. The new Kinesiology Building is now situated in the space which they occupied, alongside the header houses. The Header Houses themselves are presently used for storage.
