  • The Federal University of the Great River of Norte (UFRN) is a Brazilian public university with headquarters in the city of Natal. It is the main university center of state and one of the ten bigger federal universities of Brazil in number of graduation pupils. One originated from the University of the Great River of the North, created the 25 of June of 1958, through state law, and nationalized the 18 of December of 1960. The University of the Rio Grande do Norte, installed in solemn session carried through in the Theater Alberto Maranhão, the 21 of March of 1959, was formed from facultieses and existing schools of superior level already in Natal, as the Pharmacy College and Odontologia, the Law school, the College of Medicine and the School of Engineering, amongst others. In the decade of 1970, the construction of the Central Campus had beginning, in an area of 123 ha, that it shelters most of the installations of the University in the city of Christmas. Formally established, it includes 60 departments providing 66 different undergraduate courses, as well as a number of graduate programs.
