Caruaru is a city in Pernambuco, Brazil. Caruaru and Recife are the biggest and most important cities in Pernambuco's countryside. As of 2000, Caruaru had a population of 253,634. The city is famous, among other things, for Mestre Virgulino Lampião's clay mini-sculptures.
