In Early 1985, This small city was under Ramanathapuram District and District Headquarter was in Madurai. Chief minister of Tamilnadu Purachithalaivar M.G.R (M.G.Ramachandran) was Formed this District and Sivaganga was its Headquarters. The District was Formed my M.G.R in the year of 1985 (March). The Collectrate Building was started to build. Now many Government Employees are staying in this Collectrate Quarters. The First Collector was Nariesh Gupta (Now he is TN Election Chief).
