The ancient Anactorium the hill "Kastri" the bay of St.Peter Amvrakikos bay, near the present village of New Vonitsa dressing room and is one of the three major colonies founded by Corinthians in Arcanian ground. According to Thucydides, the Anactorium founded the illegitimate son of the tyrant Echiadi around 630 BC The position of the city was favorable for trade and shipping and maybe less on farming and agriculture. The residents will be occupied with fishing and logging. The Anactorium struck coins from the early 5th century. B.C. Known are Corinthian staters flying horse Pegasus on the obverse and the reverse head of Athena with Corinthian helmet. In the 4th century. B.C. continues to mint coins of the same type and graduation. In the 3rd-2nd century BC. B.C. we have copper coins with laurel-crowned head of Apollo on the front side and the lyre Anactorium inscription on the reverse side.
The citadel is surrounded by a circular enclosure on the hill castle, while two other larger enclosures seem to belong to the city's fortifications. The fortification is not maintained at sufficient height, but easily distinguished the path while periodically reinforced by towers. The gates of the east and west respectively, led by the cemeteries of the first to the second Thyrreio to Actium. Inside the fortress is visible from many buildings in the city, while visible and market position, and at least one port in the bay of Saint Peter.
Outside the walls have been excavated sections of the cemetery with many graves of the sixth century. B.C. containing a variety of findings. The cemeteries Anaktoriou collected numerous inscribed tombstones kept in the Museum Thyrreiou.
Τhe ruins of Anaktorium, ancient Greek city and colony of Corinth (although there are other theories about the identity of this ancient greek site..), very few ruins are still visible above ground including foundations of the surrounding walls and buildings and Temples inside the city, no archaeological excavations are done here yet.
