The original Chouteau Bridge was a three span Whipple Truss bridge built in 1887 by the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad. It was converted to vehicular use in 1951, and removed by implosion in 2001. America's railroads built 32 crossings over the Missouri River, of which 23 remain in use.
