Wreck of USS Jouett (DLG/CG-29)

Guam / Merizo /
 military, shipwreck, United States Navy

The 4th member of the Belknap Class of Guided Missile Destroyer Leaders, later reclassified Guided Missile Cruisers, USS Jouett was commissioned into US Navy service in 1966 and served with the US Pacific Fleet based out of San Diego. Her service brought her to Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf during the First Iraq War before she was decommissioned in 1994.

Following her decommissioning she was placed into the Reserve Fleet at Suisun Bay where she remained until 2007, when she was removed for use as a target during Excercise Valiant Shield 07. The Jouett absorbed several Maverick, Harpoon, HARM and GBU munitions and remained afloat until a B-2 flying from Guam finished her off with 2-500lb JDAM guided bombs. The Jouett sank at this location on August 10, 2007 in 4,100 fathoms.
