Manville is a Borough in Somerset County whose 2010 population was 10,344 and has a total area of 2.5 square miles. Manville was named after the Johns-Manville Corporation, which maintained a large manufacturing facility in the borough for decades. Manville was formed by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 1, 1929, with a referendum held on April 18, 1929. The Johns-Manville Corporation used to manufactured asbestos and was dissolved into a trust to provide compensation for victims from a class action settlement. The former plant site has been cleaned up and turned into a shopping and entertainment complex.
