Opened in the 1980s, before Boon Lay MRT station was built. At that time, Jurong was still a relatively undeveloped area. Some buses from the former Jurong Bus Terminal and Jurong East Bus Interchange were en-routed to Boon Lay Bus Interchange and hence this is how it began it's operations. Soon, as Jurong develops, new services were introduced and some of them are 243,181 and 179.

In 18 June 2006, operations in Boon Lay Bus Interchange moved temperorily to a site at Jurong West Street 64 while the bus interchange had been acquired by the government for an intergrated development that consits of an extension to the then-Jurong Point(now known as JP1),a condominium that is known as The Centris, and rebuilding the bus interchange to an air-conditioned bus interchange.

The bus interchange has been rebuilt and all operations(except for bus services 179,179A and 199 which only moved back on 8 May 2010) moved back to the premises on 27 December 2009.

It is the 4th Transport Hub in Singapore, after AngMoKio[AMK Hub],SengKang[Compass Point,Compass Hieghts Condominium],and Toapayoh[HDB Hub].
