Residence of Mr. T J Karimpanal, son of late Ittiavirah Thommen (Kochunkunju). The area was called Karimpanal Parambu (etymology unknown, perhaps there was a Sooty/Black Banyan Tree here; Parambu means homestead). An older name (most likely a byword) for this area is said to have been Vasoori Kadu (meaning Small Pox Jungle). This was where small pox victims were quarantined (read abandoned) to die. Karotte means Upper (as in, 'the ones staying above'). The Karimpanal family (orginally Pallivathukkal family, meaning Church Gate) began identifying themselves by this place-name sometime in early 20th century.
