castle, mountain, island, National Trust property (UK), tourist attraction

A place of legend. A small tidal island off Marazion beach, with a castle perched atop it.

St Michael's Mount is a picturesque rocky island that has been described as the 'Jewel in Cornwall's crown' - perhaps a reason for its popularity with visitors. The Mount has been associated with religious worship from the twelfth century, when a Benedictine monastery was erected here.

Comments

  • St Michael's Mount in Mount's Bay near Penzance, Cornwall, is opposite Marazion beach. A popular tourist attraction that was once home to the St Leven family.
  • Lord St Leven still lives there, I believe, though it is now owned by the NT
