The property is linked to the long established Normand Turgot family (Turgot is derived from the old Norse name Thorgaut). Jacques Turgot began building the castle in the early Seventeenth century. Louis-Félix Etienne, Marquis de Turgot, peer of France under the July Monarchy, contributed led the reconstruction of the east wing of the castle. The Turgots were related to Louis XIII Finance Minister Anne Robert Jacques Turgot.
