Start/Finish line for the original Watkins Glen Road Course was on this section of Franklin Street in the town itself. The original circuit looped for 6.6 miles generally to the west of town, and was in use from 1949-1952. From here competitors would turn right onto Corning Street to begin the lap. They would re-enter Franklin Street at the intersection of West 4th Street (Hwy 409) to complete the lap. Most, if not all, of this original circuit is on roads open to the public to this day.
