Shailkupa Upazila (Jhenaidah district) with an area of 373.42 sq km, is bounded by Khoksa and Kumarkhali upazilas on the north, Jhenaidah sadar, Magura sadar and Harinakunda upazilas on the south, Pangsha and Sreepur (Magura) upazilas on the east, Kushtia sadar and Harinakunda upazilas on the west. Main rivers are Gorai, Kumar, Dakua.

The location of Shailkupa town is 23.6842454N 89.2471783E. Shailkupa (Town) consists of 9 wards and 24 mahallas. The area of the town is 20.93 sq km. The town has a population of 31788; male 51.98% and female 48.02%; population density per sq km 1519. Literacy rate among the town people is 32.4%.

Shailkupa thana was turned into an upazila in 1983. The upazila consists of 1 municipality, 9 wards, 14 union parishads, 181 mouzas and 258 villages.
