The Saskatoon Cancer Centre opened in the fall of 1988. Located on the south side of “Devil's Dip” and attached via a walkway to the University Hospital, 20 Campus Drive commands a panoramic view of the South Saskatchewan River Valley. Designed by Friggstad and Folstad, the pre-cast concrete structure was constructed for $17 million. The primary function of the three level 8,100 square metre facility is patient assessment and treatment although there is also an extensive area set aside for research purposes. The Saskatoon Cancer Clinic has a long history of service and innovation. Open in 1951 and located in G Wing of the University Hospital, the Clinic was the site of the world’s first non-commercial cobalt-60 therapy unit.
