The Lutheran Theological Seminary was formed in 1965 when the Lutheran College and Seminary and the Luther Theological Seminary were merged. In early 1968 they moved into the newly completed building along the riverbank on the University of Saskatchewan campus at 114 Seminary Crescent. The stone clad structure was built in two wings. The north or residential wing contain sleeping quarters for the seminaries. The south wing contained a library, chapel, kitchen and dining facilities and class and meeting rooms.

The Lutheran College and Seminary was founded in Edmonton in 1913 by the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Manitoba and Other Provinces; it was moved to Saskatoon the following year. The Luther Theological Seminary was established in 1939 by the Norwegian Lutheran Church in America, first on the campus of the Lutheran College and Seminary and then in 1946 on a separate campus in Saskatoon.

On Sunday, 14 November, 1999 a new Lutheran Campus Centre was officially opened. The two-storey facility located at 1302 College Drive at the corner of Wiggins Avenue was constructed on the site of the old Lutheran Campus Centre, which was demolished during the summer of 1999. The facility is operated as a “‘multipurpose centre offering weekly opportunities for worship, study, fellowship, and informal counselling... [with] activities open to all students and staff on campus.’"

The building boasts a public, two-storey chapel in the northwest corner of the main floor along with a lounge, meeting room, and offices. The facility cost $250,000 to construct, and was funded by the Saskatchewan Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. The opening of the new facility coincided with the 40th anniversary of the Lutheran campus ministry.

In 2005, the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad moved into leased space in the Lutheran Seminary. The college had been forced to sell its three buildings (Emmanuel College, St. Chad's Chapel and Rugby Chapel) to the University after running into financial difficulties.
