The Central District or C.D. as it's referred to for short, is one of the oldest residential neighborhoods in Seattle. It is a historically black neighborhood has been home to the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Sir Mix-A-Lot and Quincy Jones. Many of the old houses in the neighborhood have been condemned and replaced with townhouses and condos (The default buildings to put in empty land in Seattle), resulting in the continuing gentrification of the area. The Neighborhood is served by Garfield High School and Meany Middle School.

The Original Ezzel's Famous Chicken Restaraunt is located in the C.D. across the street from Garfield High. Ezzel's is a Fried Chicken and southern cooking restaurant, with fried chicken that Oprah Winfrey liked so much she had it shipped to her, contributing to her weight problem. Because of this, there are pictures of her eating there on the walls of the restaurant.

The Central district has historically had a high crime rate, especially during the 80's and 90's though this has declined in recent years.

Due to the increasing popularity of the neighborhood, housing prises are rising and some older residents are moving south because they cannot afford these prices.
