Lake City, while known to much of Seattle as simply a place to buy a car, Lake City has a vibrant personality, similar to neighborhoods such as Greenwood or Wallingford,( To understand drive down Lake City Way between 127th st and 120th st. Lake City was incorporated into Seattle during the early 20th century, before then it was its own town. Lake City was home to the historic club and former speakeasy
"The Jolly Roger" which was arsoned in 1989(the site of the former Jolly Roger is 8721 Lake City Way. Also Lake City was the site of the Seattle branch of the racist/politically incorrect southern restaurant "The Coon Chicken Inn", where in order to enter the restaurant patrons would pass through the smiling mouth of a cartoon black porter. The best part of Lake City Way is between 130 st and 120 st, south of that, is mainly trees, Bill Pierre's empire and Ricks continuous topless dancers, until you get to the Roosevelt area near the I-5 exit, which is cool too

  • Although there are still quite a few car lots in the area, the main thoroughfare is becoming more interesting as housing prices in the tonier neighborhoods increase. I've noticed more and more professional couples and families in their 30's moving into the area because a nice piece of property on a wooded lot is stil avaialble for under $400K. Bartell Drugs is investing heavily in a brand new retail complex. Good Thai restaurants, ethnic groceries and second-hand stores make for an interesting stroll.
