Designed c. 1894 by McKim, Mead & White utilizing the same plan as the firm’s Walker Art Gallery at Bowdoin College. It was built as part of the masterplan initiated by industrialist and philanthropist John Howard Whittemore. The firm also designed Congregational Church of Naugatuck and Naugatuck High School.
