U.S. Navy Submarine Force Library and Museum is the only Submarine museum managed exclusively by the U.S. Navy, which makes it a repository for many special Submarine items of national significance.

Initially opening in 1955 and operated by the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics, the library and museum were donated to the U.S. Navy and moved to its current location along the Thames in 1964 where a 14,000 sq.ft museum building was constructed to house the library and its collection. Further expanded in 2000 with the construction of a another a 13,465 sq.ft building, the museum now has 33,000 artifacts, including the USS Nautilus (SS-571).
