This red brick Elizabethan mansion is perhaps the most stateliest in Berkshire. It was completed in 1581 by the clothier, Thomas Dolman. Other architectural features include white stone dressing, cornices and mullions and the 'E-shaped' ground plan in homage to the reign of monarch at the time. The house contains walls of fine oak panelling and an embellished staircase. The house has Royalist routes and was under attack during the Civil War, however, its design was suited to withstand such attacks.
For many years it was a school but now it survives as an education complex with a registry office.
