Stratford is a city located in western Sherman County, Texas, United States, and the county seat of Sherman County. The population was 2,017 at the 2010 census.
The area was settled around 1885 and was named after Stratford, Virginia, the boyhood home of Robert Edward Lee. In 1900 the site became a shipping point on the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf Railway, and a post office was established. The city replaced Coldwater as county seat in July 1901. Stratford's population has slowly risen over the decades and the city is an established part of Panhandle agriculture.
